Comic Book Proposal
Title: Devil Tongue
Follows the story of a young magician apprentice who finds an ancient book of sorcery that only he can read.
The story revolves around an apprentice magician by the name of Noah. In this world Magicians dabble in the real arts of magic, and they're sort of like detectives who police the supernatural activities. In this book Noah is assigned his first trial which is like a job assignment, it's the first step to becoming a full fledged magician. On his trial he finds a grimoire, otherwise known as a book of shadows; it's a powerful book of magic that is really old and written in a language that has long been forgotten. However Noah discovers that for reasons so far unknown he can decipher the cryptic language.
I want my comic to be done as a hybrid style between Manga and american graphic novels. It will be done as a 45pg one-shot which is a 1st chapter to a potential series. It is designed to introduce the reader to the world and give them just a small taste of the story. Since it will be a one-shot I will try to wrap it up as a stand alone little story but at the same time keep it open to making more chapters. It will be hard though because, the idea of the magic book written in a language only the main character can read, is the premise of the whole story, it's the driving force of the main plot.
The genre of my project will primarily be a dark mystery; and since I'm really into the whole Sherlock Holmes theme right now, I thought a spooky victorian era feeling would be a good setting for dark magic and conspiracy. I'll hand ink it all to give it a dark and gritty feel.
Visual Research (Mysterious, Dark, Gritty, Old)

- I want to make it with conventional tools; Bristol Board, pencil, and ink. Then I'll scan them in and photoshop tones.
- No color; it will be black and white and maybe some grayscale tones.
- Page (print) size will be standard Manga dimensions of 5 x 7.5
- I'm aiming for 45pgs.
- I have bad lettering, so I'll do it digitally; I'll probably make my own font.

Manga Cover Illustration
Okay, this wasn't done for the comics class, it was done last term for digital illustration. But I don't have anything digital ready for this first week, so this will have to do for the time being. It's a manga style inspired cover illustration, yup that's about it. And I would like to actually make a comic about this piece in this class.
